47 Songs Youth Choirs Are Singing

If you’re not connected to the fan page you’re missing a lot of great content and really good conversation. I post all day there, 12 times a day 7 days a week. Recently I asked the family to tell me about their youth choirs. I asked them a lot of questions about teaching, encouraging, motivating, etc. But one of the questions I asked them was to tell me what songs their youth choirs are singing.

I’ve compiled all of their answers into one long list. This list is in no particular order and some of the songs didn’t include the artist name.  I hope you find the list useful! It’s just one example of the kind of great learning, support and community that we have going on daily on the Music Ministry Cooach.com Fan page. Here we go!

Sometimes for us Older Musicians the songs are very helpful. I try to stay abreast of newer songs even thou sometimes I am not very skillful. But I’ve been blessed to sometime received or buy sheet music which help me with the younger choirs. The kids appreciate it. Thanks you for list. I’ll be retiring this year and proud to let the younger musicians take over,

  2. jl Butler says:

I’m an older musician but the parent’s at my church wanted someone who’s more of a performer. I want them to learn tone, leading, directing and harmony, and was told that was to much for them to learn. The battle was hard but they finally saw the benefits. This will only enrich their lives get them to a place to want more. Remember our children are our future. We were once where they are.

  3. Ra'Nya says:

I like the that the youth choir is singing
in church.Do you guys know Grater Salmater Basit this church?

  4. David says:

This is very inspiring & encouraging! I’m the keyboard player at my home church where I grew up. Seen a lot of things change over the years, but we have always maintained a youth choir. Today my daughter directs & teaches them 3 part harmony, how to lead, & adlib. The song list you’ve provided is right on point. The challenge is getting the parents to support the youth choir. The kids love singing.

  5. roseline alexandre says:

thank you for this helpful website

    • Sharon says:

I have a question for anyone’s opinion.. With the youth choir, should the director lead the songs. The kids seam to be uninterested in the songs being song?

      • LaDarius says:

I think it depends on the type of situation…. if you have youth who is not capable to lead then yes I do think the youth choir director should lead songs…. But if you have the youth who can sing and don’t mind leading then i think the youth should carry the songs.

  6. Natalie says:

Have you know at my church we sing the song called youth so there is more songs that we sing and they are not the ones u named so I am not grateful for that and that music is only for adults to sing at church

    • Akira says:

They didn’t name every youth gospel song in the world and I don’t want to start an arguement but you seriously need to calm down.

    • Jim Moy says:

If you have not been inundated with replies, I may be able to assist you. I am just starting (or hope to) a youth choir at my church in a very small town in Idaho. If everything goes as planned (does it ever? hahaha) I will be getting music off youtube.com for most part. I can download the songs, lyrics, and in some cases the sheet music. I do not read music, but play guitar and have a good ear for music.
I am also 80 years young and want to do this for God 1st and church/youths for their spiritual growth. If I can be of assistance, do not hesitate to ask me.

Have you come across an arrangement of Say Yes, written and recorded by Michelle Williams and Beyoncé? It’s a neat tune and the message is great. Wondered if there was an arrangement for chorus, I can’t find one. Thanks, Mary

  18. Karen says:

Although some of these songs are great I can’t help but notice that the majority, if not all, of the pieces listed are confined to one genre. As a young person myself I can attest to the fact that most people my age do not get their jollies from singing traditional church-y gospel songs. I for one very rarely connect to traditional hymns and most gospel anthems and do not receive a blessing from singing these. Therefore, as a performer, I am not able to properly and sincerely lead a congregation in worship and pass on a blessing to them through the music. As far as worship through music goes, in order to bless God and his people you must sing something through which you yourself feel the presence of the Lord. If not then your worship and leadership of the congregation will not be sincere. This is not to say that God cannot use a song that is not your preference and turn the performance of it into a wonderful worship time with Him. After all, He is God and He most definitely works in mysterious and completely unexpected ways!

This all being said, there are a multitude of songs and artist whose songs are extremely sincere, worshipful, and appropriate for a youth choir to sing in a church service as well as other performance venues. If I tried to list individual songs the list would continue for an eternity so I will give only a few artists as great examples.

    • Karen says:

Also, my personal favorite, Family Force 5!

    • Ron says:

Thanks for the feedback Karen! A couple of things to keep in mind as you read this list :

1.The Music Ministry Coach.com is a ministry that focuses primarily in Gospel music ministry. Much of what I post about applies to music ministry across all genres. However song lists will almost always be heavily slanted toward Gospel songs, since almost all my readers work in or sing Gospel music ministries.

      2. As the title emplies, this is a list of songs youth choirs are indeed singing. The list was compiled by asking that exact questions. On my fan page, which includes followers from over 40 countries and of course most parts of the US.

It doesn’t try to be all things to all people, as it can’t. It also doest try to be a list of songs that people should consider, or would like. Only what people are singing now in the Gospel genre.

However you’ve given a great list of artists here! I’m sure it will benefit many readers who come across this post. Thanks for taking the time!

      Be blessed,

It’s a blessing and encouragement to know that young people are involved with such good “Message ” music. To be involved with good material at a young age bodes well for the future. Music gets down into your being, I think, even more than we know. They’ll be carrying all that a mighty long way!
